  Link-a-palooza

Here are some of the more popular blogs about advertising. Check out Beyond Madison Avenue, AdFreak, Adrants, and Adland. Of course, there are scores more.

A zippy and concise blog about what blogs mean to marketing and PR is Steve Rubel's Micro Persuasion. Very much worth a visit.

The CEO Refresher always carries juicy articles by a variety of experts on competitive strategy, leading change, executive performance, and other related topics. Don't miss New Business: No Magic Bullets, available by searching the site.

For a low- to no-cost training curriculum about marketing and advertising basics, check out AdCracker.

Dig deeper on what it takes to lead and manage a company. Visit Industry Week's column archives. You'll find a wide range of topics including avoiding succession snafus, understanding different personality types, and selecting the best executives. When we work with agency executive teams we assign them regular doses of thoughtful pieces about what it takes to lead. Do you do that with your team?

Strategy + Business makes for a nice alternative to Harvard Business Review and it's free to read on the net if you register (how else will they get your e-mail address?).

Here's a trove of thoughts about advertising, AEs, clients, copywriting, creativity...and that's just the beginning. Compiled by the University of Texas at Austin, you'll be hooked (get it?) reading pages of quotes arranged by topic from thinkers in and outside the industry at Advertising Quotes.

Lately several crisp (as in burned out) agency owners have gotten in touch inquiring about tossing in the towel and starting small home-based businesses instead of continuing to struggle to eke out a living in the ad biz. So here's a resource from Entrepreneur magazine about relaunching yourself. Let me know how it turns out.

Visit Adslogans to see the latest in new theme lines and signatures from around the world. This comprehensive database catalogs the best (and worst) marketing tags. Good for making sure your hot new creative hasn't already been done!

If you're a news junkie or perhaps want to brush up on another language, here's a site where you can read over 200 newspapers from 55 different countries free after registration. It's called PressDisplay

Awards, awards, awards. The Cannes Advertising Festival takes place each year and if you don't have a plane ticket, perhaps you'll enjoy visiting their website at Cannes Lions. If you missed the Clios you can check out the winners at Clio Awards. Find out about the Addys at the AAF website. Also, check out the MobiusAwards. And if car advertising's your thing, you'll want to see the International Automotive Advertising Awards.

If you're looking for a stat, an expert, or the latest marketing news, chances are Click Z Network has it. You'll find it full of feature articles, resources, and links about advertising, communications, and marketing. It's a good one to put in your Favorites.

NOTE: We're always looking for interesting web resources to pass along to clients and friends. If you have a favorite not mentioned here, please share. Send links to joe@joegrantconsulting.com.

File by Rank
This one link alone will keep you going for hours as you check out the highest ranked advertising and marketing blogs at the Power 150 list.
Adobe Connect
Haven't tried it ourselves yet but several agencies tell us this is a slick way to share copy, layout, web design, and other material with clients and others. Adobe describes it as having online personal meeting rooms. Try the free demo at Adobe Connect.
Chivalry 101
Haven't seen anything like this written in a long time, but it's essential reading for men (women, too) who wish to be considered "professionals." It's a primer on etiquette and chivalry, which by the way is NOT dead. See Etiquette of a Gentleman.
GEICO Cavemen
This puts a lot of things into perspective... about the history of communication among homo sapiens. A startling parade of milestones going back to 35,000 BC, it's by no means complete. Spend a minute looking at a History of Communications.
Slated
Some of the best writing on the web comes from one of the originators of "e-zines," as they used to be called. At Slate.
Hookers
This picture is so interesting I couldn't resist. Who knew it looked this way? Not sure about all the other stuff on the site, but the picture's here.
Rules of the Load
We're all guilty occasionally of forgetting these 10 basic rules of being a good manager, available at the Coachville Resource Center.
