Nothing wrong with picking up the phone and pitching, too. But, as you point out so well, the media really hate bad pitches, especially those delivered by phone. Use all your tools, as I pointed out in my series of media relations posts last week.

Good tips Harry, but I think we are missing the point as pr people. The proliferation of email pitching, especially bad email pitching, has led us to where we are now with the media -- dodging Black Lists from influential writers who label pr pitches as spam.

How about picking up the phone and making a good verbal pitch? What ever happened to that skill?

Training in pr for junior and senior staffers needs to look to history for guidance -- turn back the clock and pick up the phone.

I'm going to pass this to my CEO. He thinks it's okay to attach a full-length article and uzi the media and other publics we have.

I've been know to take cover afterwards. Maybe this post will FINALLY convince him to be more precise.

Great list, Harry. I've actually convinced my PR department to rethink how we do releases and media outreach. These tips will be passed around the office! Thanks!
