It’s all about the brand whether you are selling a packaged product or a President. Oh, wait. Same thing.  There’s a good story on Yahoo! News about Marketing the Next President of the United States.

Some scientists have taken a look at past elections to determine which candidates do better based upon their appearance and tie to a political party. They study says,

…that candidates who were labeled as more competent and more trustworthy were  more often identified as Republican, while Democrats were more often linked with traits of likeability and intelligence.

The study further says Republicans do better if they look like CEOs or college quarterbacks. Democrats do better if they look like college professors. This puts Hilary Clinton into a quandary, don’t you think?

I haven’t read that news on Yahoo, but cognitive linguists have also found Conservatives are better at framing issues in an evangelical worldview. This is quite astute, and has consumed much of my graduate work. To the news you present here, I’d argue Nixon appeared less trustworthy, but won the White House because of how he frames the issues of the day. We, unfortunately, learned later he was a crook.
