It’s true: we are writing a book called Moving To Charlotte: The Un-Tourist Guide. Moving To Naples – is the first in the series of Un-Tourist Guides, published by Voyager Media. Sarasota comes out next, then the Charlotte book will be the third in the series.
I am recruiting writers for five to six sidebars for the book. Bob Morgan, CEO of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce is writing one on Charlotte’s can-do spirit. An excellent local writer and editor, Sarah Crosland, has agreed to write one on the local food movement. She knows this subject inside and out, having written The Food Lovers Guide to Charlotte Restaurants. Another fine, young writer, Harry Hoover III (yes, it’s my son), will write on Charlotte nightlife. Freelance writer Lauren Blake has written a piece on the hidden shopping gems in Charlotte. Pat Riley, President of the Allen Tate Companies, has written on the housing market outside of Mecklenburg County. And Michael Marsicano, President of the Foundation for the Carolinas, has written about the charitability of Charlotteans.
As part of our research, we have set up a paper.li publication, called – not surprisingly – Moving To Charlotte: The Un-Tourist Guide. This is helping me uncover Charlotte-related stories that I can use in the companion blog we have launched.
Additionally, we are conducting a survey of Charlotteans to find out what people like and don’t like about the Queen City. So, if you are one of our Charlotte readers, please take the survey. Here is some of what we have learned to date:
I have just launched a Pinterest board, Moving To Charlotte. So, feel free to follow that. Finally, I am trying to talk some well-known Charlottean into writing the foreword. I’d love for actress Angie Harmon to do it but I haven’t been able to connect with her yet. Or,Fox News Anchor Anna Kooiman, a Charlotte native, would also be great to write the foreword. If you know either, please drop me a note so I can make the request.
