Journalists A-Twitter
April 24, 2008 on 6:26 am | In News, Newspapers, Twitter, Online, Media, Social Media, Journalism, Web 2.0 |Journalists are not adopting Twitter as rapidly as one would think. Twitter is a way to quickly reach new sources, as well as to build a personal following for your reportage.
If Twitter had been available when I was a reporter 100 years ago or so, I’d have been all over it. I wrote a media criticism column and had a group of Media Miscue Rangers who kept an eye out for media misdeeds. Man, Twitter would have simplified communicating with my posse of Rangers.
I’m assembling a list of reporters who are using it. A number of newspapers and media outlets have jumped on the bandwagon, such as @startribune; @asheville; @nytimes; @nj_news; @foxnews; @theobserver
I’ll be posting this link to Twitter soon to see if we can drum up some journalists’ comments about how they are using it.

I’m a web producer, and I’ve just started experimenting with ways to use Twitter. Right now I’m using a personal account just as a way to keep tabs on what people in town are talking about, but I’ve also shared some breaking news via Twitter too.
We’re also looking at ways to use it for the May 6 primary coverage.

Kayla, thanks for that. I’ve noticed there don’t seem to be that many people in Charlotte using Twitter, but I bet you could get folks on May 6 to tell you what precinct they are in, what number voter they were, and if there are many people waiting.

I recently hopped on board. Was reluctant because there really is a small user base outside of the big cities, but I’m working on fixing that by promoting it myself.

I am a technology reporter who tweets to get leads from CU execs. As with any source of leads, I have to sift through the garbage to get to the good stuff.
